Accra, Aug. 13, GNA - Bishop Matthew Addae-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Gospel Light International church has called on Ghanaians to champion government’s decision of implementing the Double Track educational module under the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
He said the decision of the NPP government to implement the policy next academic year was a good move and must be particularly embraced by religious leaders who should educate their members, since they had been at the forefront of helping to get Ghanaian children educated.
Bishop Addae-Mensah made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra on Sunday.
He explained that the policy would give equal opportunities to all students to gain admission into SHS.
“This policy is not new. It is being practiced in many countries over the World,” he said, adding that in the beginning of everything, there may be some challenges and that with time we would overcome the challenges.
Bishop Addae-Mensah said the intention of President Akufo-Addo was good and he wanted more students to be admitted into various schools. So the track system would divide the number of students and staff into two streams using the same limited facility which would give equal opportunities to all.
“The role of the churches and other religions cannot be over-emphasised and therefore the religious leaders and their members should help spread the good news,” he said.
Bishop Addae-Mensah commended the government for taking bold step in the implementation of the free SHS policy and also leading the fight against illegal mining.
He urged the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to rescind their decision of phasing out Religious and Moral Studies (RMS), saying that such a move would spell the doom of the country.
The Presiding Bishop urged the government to spread its tax net wide enough to rope in Churches engaged in business ventures.
