National service personnel equipped with first aid knowledge

Accra, Aug 3, GNA - St John Ambulance Ghana (SJAG) has trained and certified 22 National Service persons to provide First Aid in their various communities.

Their skills are needed in gymnasiums, market places, offices and the community as a whole.

Some of the skills they acquired include: Emergency Scene Management, Choking, Fainting, Eye Injuries, Soft Tissue Injuries: Sprain and Strain, Diabetic Emergencies, Shock, bleeding, Angina and Heart Attack, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the usage of automated external defibrillator (AED) among others.

A statement signed by Dr Kwame Apedzi, the Chief Executive Officer of SJAG and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, on Friday, said the personnel were also provided with St. John-branded T-shirts to identify them as volunteers of St. John Ambulance.

At the closing ceremony of the 2017/2018 Service period yesterday, the various Heads of Departments offered pieces of advice that would shape their future.

The Chief Executive, Dr Kwame Apedzi, advised the Service Personnel to make their skills available in their communities. 

He said Health and Safety departments of various industries need their skills and that they should seek opportunities there.
