Koforidua (E/R), July 25, GNA - A helicopter carrying bars of gold from the Chirano Mines in the Bibiani-Abhwiaso-Bekwai District to Accra, was forced to make emergency landing in a cornfield at Kumikrom near Asamankese after it developed a mechanical fault.
The pilot and three other persons (a customs officer and two security men of the mining company) on board the plane, escaped unhurt.
Police Sergeant Francis Gomado, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
He said the precious cargo (gold) it was carrying was also intact.
The police at Asamankese moved quickly to secure the place moments after the emergency landing.
Another helicopter later arrived to pick the gold, packed in boxes, together with the pilot and the three others passengers.
The faulty plane was still at Kumikrom under police guard at the time of filing this story.
