Accra, July 25, GNA - Ofobod Exposition, an Event Organisation has launched the maiden Private Security Organisation, Fire and Safety Exhibition and excellence awards to help security agencies, firefighting service providers and the Public to curb security challenges in the country.
The exhibition and seminar will take place on October 18 to 20 and the award night slated for October 27.
Mr Franklin Kwesi Biney, a Security Analyst and Consultant, who launched the awards, said the journey of the private security industry in the country was impressive and exciting.
He said the show would attract opinion leaders, expects and professions to discuss the country’s security challenges.
He said experts would share their experience and knowledge to fashion out strategies and methodologies to strengthen national security capabilities and institutional capacity to address the role of private security issues.
He said the future of Ghana’s defence and security strategy would be shaped by some of the strategic recommendation reached annually by the security experts and consultant during the events towards achieving a peaceful and safe Ghana by extension promote sub-Saharan and global peace.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Tabiri, Police Headquarters said the emergence of Private Security Industry (PSI) in the country seeks to support Ghana Police Service to deliver on its core mandate of protection life and property.
He said the establishments of the private security firms was to take care of security issues at most private homes and business as police could not be everywhere all the time.
He said the Police Service Organisation Regulations, 1992 Legislative Instrument 1571 was enacted in 1992 to provide the legal framework to effectively regulate the activities of private securities, and however, many of the PSOs operate either without licence or contrary to provisions of the law.
