Offinso (Ash), July 12, GNA – The Rotary Club of Kumasi East, a Kumasi based philanthropic group has built a kindergarten block for Step by Step International School at Ofinso in the Offinso Municipality at a cost of GH¢41,400.
The project was funded with the club’s own resources with support from one of its international partners, Rotary Club of Ann Arbor.
Books and other educational materials as well as used clothes were also donated to the school.
The school which also caters for orphans numbering 45 has been struggling with infrastructural challenges.
Established in 2002 to address the educational needs of children in the area known as Dantin at a time when the children had to walk long distances to access education in other parts of Offinso, the school has grown from nursery to Junior High School.
It however lacks the needed infrastructure to provide quality education to the over 300 pupils as all the existing classroom blocks were in bad shape and inimical to academic work.
It was against this background that the proprietor of the school appealed to the Rotary Club of Kumasi East to come to their aid.
Members of the club who accepted to offer help decided to tackle the KG block which needed urgent attention.
Mr Kwadwo Dei-Agyemang, President of the club, addressing a ceremony to officially commission and hand over the project to the school, said the project was one of the club’s numerous contributions to humanity.
He said the core objective of the group was to help build communities by supporting laudable initiatives that impacted positively on many lives especially the vulnerable as Rotary was about solving problems facing society, adding that, the club would also provide furniture and computers to improve academic work in the school.
Mr. Dei-Agyemang called on authorities of the school to ensure proper maintenance of the building for the benefit of the pupils.
Mr Mahama Laari, Proprietor of the school applauded the club for the swift response to their appeal and execution of the project and said the gesture would significantly impact on the lives of the children especially the orphans whose livelihood depended on the opportunity offered them to study in the school at no cost.
He disclosed that proceeds from the fee paying pupils and his other personal sources of income was used to cater for the orphans and called on other benevolent organisations to support the school.
