Accra, May 28, GNA- An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Gabriel Amewusika, a 35-year old driver for failing to appear before it.
Amewusika is alleged to have conspired with his brother Godwin Torwudzo to beat one Alimatu Sadia, a petty trader mercilessly over maintenance fees aka “Chop money”.
When the matter was called today, Torwudzo was present but Amewusika was absent.
Amewusika had consistently failed to attend to court sittings.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the Police was looking for Amewusika after seeking a bench warrant for his arrest.
The case of prosecution was that Amewusika reside at Ashiaman. Madam Sadia is the girlfriend of Torwudzo and they both live in the same house at Sukura.
Prosecution said Madam Sadia has been in relationship with Torwudzo for the past two years.
Chief inspector Atimbire said Torwudzo often beat Sadia at the least provocation.
On October 28, last year, at about 2030 hours, Madam Sadia asked Torwudzo for “chop money” to feed herself and her daughter.
Prosecution said Torwudzo got angry and subjected Madam Sadia to severe beatings, dragged her on the floor and threatened to kill their four month old baby.
Three days after the incident, prosecution said Amewusika, a senior brother to Torwudzo came to the house and assaulted Sadia who sustained multiple bruises all over her face.
Prosecution said Torwudzo later also attacked Sadia with an iron rod for asking him for money for maintenance again.
Sadia as a result of the beatings suffered a fracture on her hand.
Prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the Police at the Dansoman Domestic Violence and Victims support Unit and a medical report form was issued to her to seek treatment at the hospital.
Later the Police arrested the two accused.
The matter has been adjourned to June 8.
