Nkwanta (V/R), April 27, GNA - Mr Alberto Mario Noretti, the Secretary of the Volta Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has advised journalists not to compromise on safety in the line of work.
“You must ensure the highest standards of safety because no assignment is worth your life,” he said.
Mr Noretti was interacting with journalists in the northern part of the Volta Region as part of activities by the GJA to mark this year’s World Press Freedom Day at Nkwanta.
Mr Noretti said as the role of journalists broadened, more must be done to protect their lives on the job and advised practitioners not take "unnecessary risks".
“We must live to tell the stories, so let’s use only road worthy vehicles with seat belts and life jackets where necessary,” he added.
Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, the Volta GJA Chairman, reiterated the need for practitioners to adhere to the GJA Code of Ethics and urged the young ones to pay attention to dressing because “proper dressing is a mark of professionalism.”
Mr Sepenyo Dzokoto, a veteran journalist, encouraged practitioners in the Region to develop interest in economic reporting to help revive local industries and grow the economy.
The interaction heralded a day’s business forum for small and medium scale enterprises in northern Volta as part of a campaign by the GJA, the Association of Ghana Industries and Regional Coordinating Council to resuscitate local industries.
