Accra, April 05.GNA - Ghana’s duo Abeiku Jackson and Jason Arthur have qualified for both the men’s 50m and 100m semi-finals in the butterfly and backstroke heat with times of 24.68 and 56.52 respectively at the Optus Aquatec Center in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
The duo made it automatically to the next phase of the competition after placing 16th in the butterfly and 14th in the backstroke heats respectively.
The two young swimmers would seek to raise the flag of Ghana high later in the evening as Abeiku battle athletes from Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand Scotland whiles Jason would also face the likes of South Africa, England, Wales, Canada.
Jackson born 12 April 2000 specializes in the 50 meter freestyle and has competed in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and 100m butterfly at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he holds Ghana’s national records in 13 disciplines, including freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke events over distances from 50 to 400 meters.
Jason is US-based Ghanaian swimmer, who grabbed two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming and Diving Championship held at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Virginia, United States.
