Accra, April 5, GNA – A Madina District Court on Thursday ordered the Police to follow-up on the pathologist’s report in the case in which a 23-year-old footballer allegedly stabbed to death a former student of the University of Ghana during an argument.
This was after Prosecution led by Inspector Joyce Ninson told the court that the case investigator was yet to procure the autopsy report of the deceased.
Inspector Ninson said based on the advice of the court at the last sitting, the Police had been following up on the report.
Prosecution said the Police would need the report to enable them to prepare a duplicate docket to be sent to the Attorney Department for advice.
When the case was called the accused, George Osei Mensah was not in court.
The court presided over by Mr Richard D. Anku directed the Police to expedite action on the report.
Watching brief for deceased family were four lawyers including Mr Mark Ziwu, Mr Kwabena Agyekumhene.
The matter was adjourned to May 8; however few minutes after the adjournment the case investigator arrived in court with the accused.
Mr Derrick Adu-Gyamfi represented Mensah (the accused) in court.
Defence Counsel at the last sitting had prayed the court to discharge his client since there had been an unreasonable delay and his client was also innocent.
Mensah was put before the court for allegedly stabbing Martin Tweneboah aka “Tipsy” aged 32 with a broken bottle at the Commonwealth Hall on December 9, last year.
The accused who is facing a provisional charge of murder have had his plea reserved by the court.
The case of prosecution was that Mensah and Tweneboah attended a funeral of a former student of the University of Ghana, who was also a vandal at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region on December 9, last year.
Prosecution said while the two were in the Commonwealth Hall bus on their way back to Accra, they engaged in heated argument over who was a vandal and who was not.
According to prosecution, Tweneboah allegedly ordered Mensah to get out of the bus since it was for vandals.
When the two arrived at the University‘s campus, the argument heated up and Mensah allegedly grabbed an empty bottle, broke it and stabbed Tweneboah multiple times on the neck.
A report was made to the Police whilst Tweneboah was rushed to the Legon Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
