Accra, April 3, GNA - The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), with the assistance of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has arrested Frank William K. Addo, a 37-year old man, for posing as personnel of the FDA
Frank Addo was arrested at Nungua on Monday, March 26, 2018, upon a tip-off by an individual whom the suspect had attempted to dupe for the second time.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr James Lartey, the Head of Communications, said according to investigations conducted so far by the FDA and CID, the mode of operation of the suspect was to issue fake FDA product registration and training certificates to unsuspecting individuals and entities who deal in FDA’s regulated products, especially in the La, Nungua, Midie and surrounding areas.
He said the FDA had struggled in the past few years to deal with persons, who pose as FDA officers.
“In the past few days, the Authority has received a number of reports and complaints of some persons posing as FDA officers, going round in some parts of the country and extorting monies from both clients and potential clients of the FDA,” he said.
He reminded the public that no officer from the FDA is mandated to receive monies from any client outside FDA’s cash offices and that clients must ensure they take official receipts for all payments made to the FDA.
He urged the public to demand to see the FDA Photo ID cards of officers anytime in doubt.
Mr Lartey assured the public of the FDA’s continuous resolve to protect public health and safety and appealed to the public to notify the FDA of persons whose activities are likely to pose danger to the public on any of the following numbers and social media platforms.
“Toll free number 0800151000 ((Vodafone and AirtelTigo only), Hotline numbers 0299802932 and 0299802933, Call and WhatsApp 0206973065, SMS short code 4015, Facebook (Food and Drugs Authority-GH) and Twitter on @GH_FDA” , he said
He said investigation by the police was ongoing.
