Yendi (NR) March. 20, GNA - The Yendi Circuit Court has convicted 18 motorbike riders in the Yendi Municipality of Northern Region.
They include; Ibrahim Abdulai, Kwaku Jerry, Fuseini Alhassan, Yussif Iddrisu, Denis Nyaba, Salifu Adam Zibri, Lukeman Mumuni, among others.
Inspector Grace Nutsugah, the Prosecutor informed the court that on 15th March, 2018 at about 0830 hours, the Yendi Divisional Police Command embarked on a special motor-bike exercise to clamp down indiscipline in the Yendi Municipality.
Inspector Grace Nutsugah indicated that in the course of the exercise, 18 accused motorbike riders were arrested for riding without crash helmets, unregistered motorbikes, without licence, genuine documents, road worthy certificates and were processed and arranged before the Yendi Circuit Court under the Act 683/2004.
His Honour William Twumasi Appiah, the Yendi Circuit Court Judge said the accused motorbike riders were convicted on their own plea of guilty of the offence.
The Presiding Judge William Twumasi Appiah asked them to pay sums of money based on their offences or be imprisoned for 12months or both cash and imprisonment.
He indicated that there had been motorbike accidents in the Municipality due to indiscipline of the riders and asked the Police to arrest minors who had been riding the motorbikes in town without any experience.
He urged the Police to auction all the motorbikes that had been abandoned at the police station.
The Presiding Judge warned all motor riders tocomply with Cont. to sect 41(3) of Act 683/2004 of motorbike riders in order to avoid prosecution since the exercise by the Police would continued
