Bogyawe (Ash), March 12, GNA – Young women and girls have been urged to do away with acts that could hinder their future development and progress.
They should rather, focus on their education and embrace positive attitudes towards work-a move that would bring progress and guarantee a brighter future for them.
Ms Faustina Osei Prempeh, Programs Manager for Rights and Responsibilities Initiatives Ghana (RRIG), a non-governmental organization, said this at a ceremony to mark the International Women’s Day celebrations at Bogyawe in the Bekwai Municipality.
This year’s Celebration was held under the theme: “Press for Progress”.
The purpose was to empower the girls to promote gender inclusion and also to acknowledge women who have contributed meaningfully to their communities.
Ms Osei Prempeh said that young women and girls need to be encouraged to become responsible women in future.
She urged them to inculcate in themselves, the habit of reading, which was a strong tool for building self-confidence and source of inspiration.
Madam Dora Oteng, the Youth Advocate for Girls Advocacy Alliance Project in Ashanti, advised them to overcome shyness, believe in their abilities, gifts and talents and work to build upon them.
She said the girl child education is very important in nation building and urged stakeholders in education to ensure that every girl was enrolled in school.
