Accra, March 1, GNA – GCB Bank, on Thursday, donated five computers, with a printer, to the Ghana News Agency to facilitate its news production and dissemination processes towards boosting the flow of credible information for sound decision-making and national development.
This follows an appeal for financial and logistical support, which the nation’s largest news gathering organisation, made to the Bank for resourcing its Editorial Department to deliver more efficiently on its mandate.
Making the presentation, at the head office of the Bank in Accra, Mrs Thyra Obuobi, Head of Corporate Affairs of GCB Bank said the bank deemed it a good cause to support the efforts of the Agency to serve the information needs of Ghanaians, especially, those in the communities where the 183 branches of the Bank were located.
“If you know the relevance of the GNA, you’d appreciate that it is best institution to collaborate with because it has been mandated to deliver that critical information from every part of the nation, which we can utilise for improving our business success and building a prosperous nation,” Mrs Obuobi said.
“The GNA is also the best source of credible news on Ghana for those outside the country; indeed, the fortunes of a successful GNA would inure to the benefit of every Ghanaian individual or business, so it must receive every support that it needs to be the best.”
Mrs Yaa Oforiwah Asare-Peasah, the Acting General Manager, of the GNA, who received the donation, on behalf of the Agency, said the equipment were very timely because GNA’s operations were being constrained by inadequate logistics and funds.
“In view of this, we are deeply appreciative of GCB Bank’s goodwill and gesture. If every better endowed organisation, like yours were to offer anything just minimal to aid our work, we could pool enough resources, which would improve our productivity in the national interest,” she said.
The GCB Bank, founded in 1953, is the second largest bank in the country by net profits and total assets.
