Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Feb. 21, GNA - The Management of Dormaa Municipal Directorate of Education on Wednesday, instructed 20 basic schools in the Dormaa township to close at
12 mid-day, ahead of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League game between Aduana Stars and Al Tahadi Club of Libya.
Mr Isaac Nsiah Edwards, the Municipal Director of Education, said the decision was solely base on security and safety of the school children in the area.
Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports in Dormaa-Ahenkro, Mr Nsiah Edwards explained that, the decision was taken collectively with management because "we are thinking about the safety and security of the school children first".
"In such time when all manner of people will be expected to be in town, we want parents and guardians to strictly monitor and control the movement of their children in the area.
"Traffic and vehicular movement would be high in the area between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm, when most of the schools would have closed this could maximise the risk and dangers on the street.
"I'm in this environment and have studied it we are trying as much as possible to avert possible mishaps and tragedies."
The Municipal Director of Education further indicated that "the decision to allow for the closure of the schools is not to necessarily allow the teachers to troop to the stadium to watch the game, although that could be an added advantage".
He said schools which lied immediately outside Dormaa main town were however excluded.
The MDE advised parents who have the intention of allowing their children to flock to the stadium to witness the match to do so in the care of elderly person in this time.
