Accra, Feb. 20, GNA - Friends from Bethel Academy Group, an association formed by the old students of the Bethel Academy Preparatory School, Laterbiokorshie, has honoured hardworking current and past staff of the school.
The maiden colourful event which was witnessed by members of the group, individual sponsors, retired and current teachers and students took place on the school premises.
The retired teachers received hampers, assorted provisions and food items plus an undisclosed amount of money.
The current teachers received wax prints and the school kids also received exercise books, pens, pencils, crayon, drinks, biscuits, toffees and water.
Mrs Mavis Asare Donkor, President of the Group, said the group was created on 19th January, 2018 and has a committed membership of 26 alumni of the school, seven of whom live abroad and 19 in the country.
She said the vision of the Group is to provide the needed support to brilliant but needy children in the school as well as appreciate former and current teachers of the school.
Mrs Donkor said the group chose the Valentine’s Day for the ceremony because it was acknowledged worldwide as a day to show love and appreciation.
She said as a result of the good foundation laid for them by the retired teachers, they found it necessary to appreciate and honour them whilst they were alive.
Mrs Donkor said the ceremony marks a major milestone in their collective quest to establish a worthy cause with the old students of the Bethel Academy.
She expressed the hope that the alumni of other schools would emulate their example by giving back to the institution that helped to shape their lives.
The President called on other year groups of Bethel Academy to join them in intensifying their efforts, sharing ideas and implementing critical programmes to support the school.
This, she said, would go a long way to help eliminate the duplication of efforts, offer more initiatives and also cut down on cost in terms of support.
“We are putting together our annual action plan for this agenda to support the needy children and appreciate teachers. We would constantly stay in touch with the school management for the smooth and successful implementation of our plan.”
