Suhum (E/R), Feb. 8, GNA - The Eastern Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) has commissioned a new primary distribution sub-station at Suhum.
The primary sub-station, which has both 33kv and 11kv feeders was built at the cost of $ 501,700.82 and funded solely by the ECG.
The sub-station is expected to address the low voltage challenges experienced by customers in Suhum, Bunso, Apadwa, Kibi, Teacher Mante and other surrounding communities.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Eastern Regional General Manager of ECG, Mr Michael Baah said the establishment of the primary substation reflects ECG’s corporate mission to provide quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the economic growth and development of Ghana.
“The construction of this sub-station adds up to the numerous interventions by ECG to improve power supply in the region” he stated.
Mr Baah said, the sub-station will serve about 31,000 customers within Suhum, parts of Koforidua, Kibi, Apadwa, Bunso and Nsawam.
He said the sub-station is expected to further complement the company’s effort in providing adequate supply capacity for present and future power needs of the region.
He said the station would also serve as an alternative source of supply to other parts of the region in times of outages.
Mr Baah disclosed that, the region completed about 175 major projects in 2017, which included high voltage system upgrades and network system injections.
He was optimistic that the company would initiate and complete more development projects in the region this year to meet the demands of customers.
He appealed to customers to pay their bills promptly to enable the company to serve them better and advised the public to desist from all forms of illegal connections.
