SRH/SMH welcome 14 new babies in the New Year

Sunyani, Jan. 2, GNA – The Sunyani Regional Hospital (SRH) recorded eight deliveries, comprising five females and three males from the dawn of the New Year’s Day to noon time on Tuesday.

The Sunyani Municipal Hospital (SMH) also welcomed six new babies consisting of four males and two females from the December 31 last year to the morning of Tuesday.

Madam Mary Dufie, a Midwife on duty at the maternity ward of the SRH, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said three of the deliveries were through caesarean section.

All the mothers and their babies, Madam Dufie said were in stable health condition but were yet to be discharged.

She advised prospective mothers to report immediately to ante-natal clinics whenever they realised “they have missed their periods” to prevent any complications at the time of pregnancy.  

Madam Dufie said early ante-natal clinic was very necessary during pregnancy because health checks like blood pressure and the weight of the pregnant women were monitored to ensure good health and safety of both the mother and unborn baby.

She said there is the need for post-natal care to vaccinate babies and also check on the state of health of the mothers.

Madam Abigail Adusei, a midwife in-charge at the maternity ward at the SMH, said two out of the six deliveries were through caesarean sections.

Four of the mothers were 24 years each while the other two were aged 23 and 31, she said.

Madam Adusei advised pregnant women to have enough rest and endeavour to exercise the body on the advice of Physicians or appropriate health personnel.
