Tema, Jan 1, GNA - The Right Reverend Dr Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Anglican Bishop of Accra, has called on Christians to renew their faith and abstain from worldly pleasures.
He said Christians ought to refrain from the things that had the tendency of leading them astray.
The Bishop was speaking in a sermon during the confirmation of 20 parishioners made up of 17 females and three males, into the Anglican faith, at the Christ the King Anglican Church, Sakumono, on Sunday.
Confirmation is a ritual of passage practised by several Christian denominations, and Anglicans who choose to be confirmed make a further commitment to the Christian journey that began with their baptism.
Through the renewal of solemn promises and vows by confirmation candidates, it also marks their decision to live responsible and committed Christian lives.
Dr Torto called on parishioners and the newly confirmed not to yield to worldly pleasures and ensure that they pursue the Christian calling with diligence and steadfastness in their service to God.
He said Christians should endeavour to be witnesses of their faith and lead exemplary lives that would attract others to the fold rather than deter them.
"You are not of the world, you have overcome it. Therefore stand firm in your faith and be the light that leads others to God" he said.
He said faithful Christians are at all times rewarded for their deeds, calling on parishioners to cause a paradigm shift in serving Christ.
While laying hands with the sacramental oil, the Bishop prayed to God to strengthen the newly confirmed with the Holy spirit.
Reverend Canon Patrick Okaijah-Bortier, Vicar of the Christ the King Anglican Church, making a presentation on behalf of the parish to the Bishop, lauded him for his continuous support to the Parish and the Anglican Communion.
