Accra Dec 12, GNA - The Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo has schooled a Member of Parliament over the use of titles such as “honourable” on writs.
According to her names were to appear first before any designation.
The Chief Justice noted that it was unnecessary for people to write titles on writs adding that “you don’t fight your battles through titles.”
She gave the advice when two minority Members of Parliament (MPs) for Ashaiman and Juaboso constituencies, Ernest Norgbey and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh respectively appeared before the Court for the hearing of their writ challenge the appointment of Otiko as a minister.
The two Legislators were seeking a declaration that Ms Otiko Djaba was unqualified to occupy the position of a minister, because she failed to undertake the mandatory National Service.
Mr. Akandoh described himself to the court as “’Honourable Akandoh”’
Justice Akuffo then educated him over the use of titles.
She further asked Mr. Godwin Tamakloe counsel for the legislators to go and expunge the titles on the writ.
The CJ said there was the need to teach the public about the use of titles and urged them to be careful with the use of titles.
She said people should not focus attention on themselves by using titles.
If we want to learn from the people who originated these titles don’t do this, “they mention their names before they mention any other titles.”
