Tarkwa (W/R), November 13, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit court has fined a 30 year-old driver from Wasa Akropong Gyabode 1,200 Ghana cedis for negligently causing harm.
Francis Amoah pleaded guilty to causing harm but not guilty to dangerous driving.
Police Detective Inspector Clement Amoah told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew that on April 1, this year, at about 1:00 am, the accused was driving a Kia Rio taxi cap with registration number AS 1460-16 from Wasa Akropong Agape towards Akropong town.
He said on reaching the Wasa Akropong, old Bogoso lorry station, the vehicle knocked down a 44 year-old pedestrian Nana Kofi Ampong who was crossing the road with his friend Enoch Ankomah.
He said the victim sustained injuries and was sent to the Wasa Akropong government hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Police Detective Inspector Amoah said on April 6, the accident vehicle which was examined by the district licensing manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority at Dunkwa On-Offin, indicated that the brake, steering, gearing and electrical systems were in good condition, which means the driver was negligent.
