Tarkwa (W/R), November 13, GNA-Johnson Ameyaw, a 26 year-old illegal miner has been fined GH?480.00 by a Tarkwa Circuit court for unlawfully escaping from police custody, resisting arrest, causing harm and damage.
The convict who pleaded guilty to all the four counts will in default serve sixty days imprisonment.
The court also ordered the convict to pay for the repairs of a damaged counter or else he would sever another sixty days imprisonment.
Prosecuting Police Detective Inspector Clement Amoah told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew that the complainant, is a police officer stationed at Dompim and the accused is a resident of Dompim-Pepesa.
According to Detective Amoah, on February 18 this year, an assault case was reported against Ameyaw at the Dompim Police station.
He said whilst a statement was being taken from the person who lodged the complaint Ameyaw emerged at the police station and was arrested and placed behind the counter for interrogation but he sneaked out.
Inspector Amoah said two police officers who were then on duty rushed outside to get hold of him, but he resisted arrest and on five times occasions bit one of the officers.
He said Ameyaw was however over powered and arrested back to the charge office where he damaged the counter valued GH?200.00.
The Prosecutor said, a police medical form was issued to the police officer to attend hospital for treatment.
Inspector Amoah said a caution statement was obtained from Ameyaw and he admitted the offense.
