Accra, Oct.16, GNA - Aduana Stars are the new champions of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League (GPL), with one match to go after seeing off Elmina Sharks at the Dormaa Agyemang Badu Park on Sunday October 15.
The ‘Ogya Boys’ won their second league title after their last win in 2010, when they made their debut appearance in the GPL.
Goals from Abdul Rashid and a penalty from Sam Adams were enough to grant Aduana Stars, all the three points even though Benjamin Tweneboah got a consolation for Sharks.
The results means Aduana Stars with a game to spare with 57 points after 29 games whilst their closest challengers are West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) are seven points of the pace.
In other results of the week 29, Hearts of Oak lost by a goal away hay to Medeama SC. A goal from Francis Addo was enough to secure the Tarkwa based a stay in the premiership.
Asante Kotoko’s Saddick Adams shot proved to be the winner in their game against Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Second placed WAFA lost away to Ebusua Dwarfs at the Cape Coast stadium with a brace from Joseph Esso, as Justice Amartey got a consolation.
