Koforidua (E/R), Oct 04, GNA – Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, is in celebration mood as it readies to host this year’s national teachers’ day.
“Teaching in freedom, empowering teachers” is the theme chosen for the event to be held at the Koforidua Jackson Park.
The Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Wednesday organized a three-hour march through some principal streets of the town to herald the celebration.
Award winning teachers from across the country started arriving in the town, 24 hours ahead of time.
Ms. Abena Gyamera, the first National Trustee of GNAT, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that she was upbeat about a successful celebration of the teacher.
She made reference to the theme and described it as most appropriate – a reminder to everybody to avoid the physical attacks on teachers in the performance of their duties.
