Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – The Kings Football Competition (KFC) is organizing a maiden U-17 football tournament from November 25 to 26 at the Gbawe Cluster of Schools Park in Accra.
The competition dubbed: “The Portfolio Tournament” is aimed at supporting committed young players and their teams to promote their careers to greater heights and to be recognised.
The programme is being supported by the Women Art Institute, Africa (WAIA)
A statement issued by the Director of the tournament, Seli Nyaho on Tuesday said the tournament would feature eight under-17 teams in Ghana and it is non-residential.
“Teams will be conveyed to the tournament ground in the morning for the two-day event,” it said.
The statement said the competition abounds with opportunities for players and teams that understand the game of soccer and were looking for ways to promote and enhance the competitiveness of their players, and urged reputable organised teams to register.
It said the tournament was appropriately structured to accommodate professional football players to commensurate with the Ghana Football Association’s and FIFA rules.
“Football is an incredibly powerful engagement tool and the immense local, national, and international popularity of the sport means that it can be utilized to not only entertain people, but also bring about positive change to local communities.
The tournament affords the players the chance to relate better with self, team mates and opponents,” the statement said.
Ms Mardey Ohui Ofoe, the Chairperson of the Planning Committee of the KFC Tournament in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the competition would bring about high quality coaching, fun and good relationships among teams.
She said it would also offer players, the chance to learn football skills, tactics and strategies of the game to improve their performance on the field.
Ms Ofoe urged premier U-17 teams to register; adding that, the first 11 players of each team would be profiled and promoted online to build support for the tournament and their teams.
She said the deadline for team registration is November 15, 2017 after which draws would be held for the matches, adding that, winners of the tournament would receive a trophy and appear on four sport media outlets.
The participating teams and players would be awarded certificates and each team would be given GH¢300.00 after registering a maximum of 22 players and four officials.
