Assin-Oboba (C/R), Sept. 28, GNA - Mr Kuntu Blankson, Head teacher of Assin Oboba M/A basic school in the Assin North Municipality has appealed Government and the local authorities to move quickly to repair structural defects on the six-unit classroom block to avert an imminent disaster.
He said this is way to ensure maximum security and safety of teachers and the over 300 students, many of whom are children and toddlers.
Mr Blankson, in an interview with the Ghana Need Agency at Oboba, said the current structural defects of the school was deeply disturbing and is affecting teaching and learning.
The school built over 50 years ago has not seen any major renovation works hence the leakage of the roof of the entire structure anytime it rains.
The GNA observed that the various classrooms were dark with no electricity and lacked proper ventilation, a situation the students and teachers confirmed had created severe heat in the classrooms.
Apart from the yawning cracks in the building, the floor had also developed deep cracks which pose great danger to students and teachers.
He appealed to the District Assembly not to wait for any avoidable accident to happen before it moved in to fix it.
The Head teacher applauded the effort of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for their assistance to the school and urged the teachers to work with dedication and commitment regardless of the challenges.
Mr Blankson said despite the challenges some parents were still not providing their wards with the basic educational needs and urged all stakeholders to play their expected roles.
