Tarkwa (W/R), Sept. 26, GNA - Two people from Asankragwa in the Amenfi West district of the Western Region have been granted bail of GH¢5,000.00 with three sureties for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
The accused persons are Obed Andoh, 22 and Nana Yaw Asmah, 28. Their three accomplices, namely Kwaw Kesse, Konti and Oti are at large.
They all pleaded not guilty to the two charges and the case adjourned to October 3, 2017.
Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, the prosecutor, told the Circuit Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant is a businessman and prospects for gold and lives at Kwasi-Bukro, a suburb of Asankragwa.
She said on August 18, this year, at about 14:30 hours, the complainant, whilst on his way to Asankragwa main market to purchase some items, was confronted by Kesse and forcefully took his iPhone 6 mobile phone valued GH¢2,300.00 from him.
She said the complainant followed Kesse to an isolated bush near the market and attempted to collect his phone back, but in the process the two struggled and the other accomplices came over and subjected the complainant to severe beating.
Inspector Anaman said the convicts and their accomplices forcefully took an amount of GH¢2,369.00 from the complainant's pocket and bolted, but the victim managed to get hold of his phone and reported the case to the police the same day.
The prosecutor said Andoh and Asmah were arrested for questioning and they admitted the offense in their caution statement before an independent witness.
Inspector Anaman said on September 13 this year, the convicts parents refunded an amount of GH¢2,360.00 to the police.
