Atiemo (Ash), Sept 26, GNA - The police in the Asante-Akim South have scaled up the fight against narcotic drug peddlers as the District Commander vows to stop at nothing to arrest and prosecute anybody engaged in the illicit trade.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Andrew Anyani said they would be ruthless, to make the drugs trade unattractive.
He was speaking at a meeting held with the chiefs and people of Atiemo, a predominantly farming community.
He had accompanied the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Alexander Frimpong, who was a day’s visit to the place to learn at first hand the felt needs of the people.
DSP Anyani expressed concern about the growing misuse and addiction to hard drugs by many a young people in the area and said this could not continue.
He added that the supply chain needed to be targeted, neutralized and dismantled.
He warned those in the illegal trade to quit in their own interest or be ready to face the full rigors of the law.
DSP Anyani urged the youth to stay away from drugs and said they would be punished when caught.
He encouraged the people to flag up criminals to the police to assist bring down crime and allow everybody to go about their economic activities without fear.
Nana Kwame Dwumah, the chief, pledged to give the police the needed support.
