He was followed by Seth Arthur of the Western Region, who clocked two hours 12 minutes, with Edem Anku of the Greater Accra Region taking the third position with a time of two hours 18 minutes.
About 300 walkers drawn from the academia, the Clergy keep fit clubs and the health sector took part in the 21-kilometre walk, which started from the University’s Campus, Sowutuom, through Ofankor to Achimota and back to the Campus.
It was aimed at raising funds to support the brilliant but needy students in a form of scholarships, and also socialize with one another as well as selecting professionals to take part in an international marathon competition.
Mr Philip Engmann, Vice President of the University, charged Ghanaians to take active interest in exercises to enable them to stay healthy at all times.
He said exercise reduce the risk of heart disease by improving its efficiency and also lowers the risk of heart diseases and helps burn off many extra calories.
He recommended that Ghanaians exercises at least three times a week to improve upon their health,
Bishop Dr Charles Abban, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the University urged Ghanaians to change their lifestyle and take physical education seriously and expressed the hope that the event would be an annual affair.
