Sunyani, Aug 16, GNA - Dr Emmanuel Kofi Amponsah, the Acting Medical Director of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital, has said the facility needs urgent support to attend to critical cases and improve on quality healthcare delivery
He said all the major machines and medical equipment were obsolete adding that almost all the access roads to the facility have developed potholes.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the 2017 mid-year review meeting of the Hospital in Sunyani, Dr Amponsah expressed concern about poor lighting systems at the facility.
He said streetlights at the hospital premises were not working while machines at the Central Sterilization Department, Sewage Treatment Plant and the incinerator were also not functional.
Dr Amponsah said the situation has compelled management to construct pit where mostly solid and liquid waste from the labour ward were dumped.
The acting Medical Director said majority of the hospital's vehicles were also grounded due to old age while only one of the two autoclave machines was partially functioning.
Dr Amponsah said the intermittent breakdowns of the mortuary motors and their rust nature was also great challenge.
He expressed regret that since 2003 that it was commissioned, the facility has not seen any rehabilitation work and appealed to philanthropists, NGOs and corporate bodies to come to their aid.
Dr Amponsah said as the major referral hospital in the region the facility needed to be put in good shape so that it could attend to critical cases and improved on performances.
He advised the health workers to promote team work and exhibit professionalism and high ethical standards to raise the image of the hospital.
Dr Amponsah said the hospital's financial situation was equally bad, adding that because of the delayed in payment of claims by the National Health Insurance Authority it owed suppliers millions of cedis.
