Accra, July 27, GNA - Dr Prince Kofi Amoabeng, President of UT Holdings, has publicly endorsed the Punctuality Ghana Public Endorsement Campaign with a call on government to sanction ministers and appointees who flout the principle of time management.
He blamed Ghana’s economic crisis partly on lack of time management on the side of some public officials and urged government to “roll out robust measures to deal with such officials irrespective of their positions”.
He was speaking at an event organised by the Wise Water Foundation in Accra on Thursday, to solicit support from distinguished leaders in the country to influence public education on punctuality.
“I’m looking forward to a day when Ghana would be seen as the leading African country for time management. My heart is therefore behind the initiative,” Dr Amoabeng pledged.
He called public officials to comply to the principle of time management, saying time was the most valuable currency which could not be replaced.
Dr Amoabeng charged all development stakeholders including the media to respect time in pursuance of their mandate to propel the country’s efforts to achieve economic development.
“President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to time management should be emulated by all, if we desire to move our country forward,” he added.
Mr Emmanuel Amarquaye, the Chief Executive Director of Wise Water Foundation, complained about the hustle people went through for months to acquire some official documents including birth certificate, passport and driver’s licence.
He expressed worry at the increasing rate at which people were permitted to block roads for funerals, resulting in huge traffic congestions.
The Director called on government to repair malfunctioning traffic lights, potholes and tow broken down vehicles on the roads on time to reduce traffic congestion.
He said leaders should show up at events first because “poor time management was a recipe for disorganisation, disorderliness, which led to unnecessary queues that result in unacceptable corruption.”
Ms Wonder Plange, the Project Co-ordinator for the Punctuality Ghana, reaffirmed the commitment of the initiative towards contributing to the economic growth of the country through educating the public on good time management.
She called for support to “to weed out the poor time management that has crippled this country of ours”.
