Accra, July 27, GNA - Codetrain, the first technology-talent accelerator to train young people to build apps and software, has been launched in Accra.
Mr Richard Brandt, Founder of Codetrain, said the school, trained young people to build a career in web and mobile application development, design, and online marketing.
He said: “After training, we connect our students to job opportunities so we have partnerships with start-ups who employ them.
Everything is becoming digitized, and through our programme, we raise technology entrepreneurs thereby, creating wealth and reducing unemployment.”
He disclosed that students, in the last six months, had built 20 apps including three client projects from the USA, student projects and local business projects.
He noted that some students had actually built apps and one of such is ‘Good Deal Accra app’, which allows SMEs to market their products by posting pictures of their products on the app to attract customers.
Two of such apps built by Rachel Anane-Antwi and Awal Mubarak, were introduced into the market.
Mr Kwabena Boadu, a web-developer, sharing his experience with over 150 participants said his company after training with Meltwater Water Entrepreneurial School of Technology in 2012, built the MPAWA, a job-matching platform for blue collar workers could access customers.
Ms Donna Quarshie, the Chief Executive Officer of Giraffe, said hard skills acquired by students constituted about 15 per cent of what was required to be successful in a job role.
She trained participants in soft skills including people skills, emotional intelligence, and team work so they can manage their businesses effectively as well as compete on international level.
Ms Quarshie reiterated the need for companies to allow students have internships so they could acquire soft skills beyond the knowledge acquired in school.
