Anaji (W/R), July 11, GNA – Mrs Georgina Essien, the out-going Principal of the Community Development Vocational Institute, has called on the district authorities to help provide adequate infrastructure for the institute.
She said various challenges are gradually threatening the effectiveness and efficiency of the institution in carrying out its mandates.
Speaking at the at the 2017 Annual Graduation and Exhibition of 17 students, Mrs Essien said the lack of infrastructure coupled with practical learning tools for demonstrations remain the biggest challenge and called on the metropolitan assembly to adopt the institution and help meet its needs.
She said for the school to perform effectively there is the need for authorities in the district to provide a three story classroom block, ICT laboratory, kitchen and dining hall, dormitories, borehole and a fence wall.
Currently, Mrs Essien, said the school operates from a three unit classroom block for both proficiency and certificates programmes and this has made teaching and learning unfriendly.
She said “anytime students are embarking on practical projects, the school becomes disorganized -all because of the lack of classrooms”.
She said learning materials were also woefully inadequate and this is hampering quality academic delivery.
From the next academic year, she said, the school would introduce male dominated courses such as, Plumbing, Building and Construction and Electrical Installation as well as introduce the NABPTEX examinations.
Mrs Essien urged the graduates to use the skills acquired to better their lot and help meet the needs of their families.
Mr Robert Owusu-Ansah, Western Regional Director of the Community Development, said the ejection made by city authorities to their present location at Anaji had created many problems for the institute.
He appealed to the PTA, board members, NGOs and other philanthropic organizations to come to the aid of the school.
