Kumasi, June 20, GNA - Sheikh Dr. Amen Bonsu, National Chief Imam of the Ghana Muslim Mission, has rallied Muslims to use the period of Ramadan - spiritual cleansing, to pray for the nation’s peace and stability.
They should also recommit to religious tolerance – accept to live peacefully with everybody.
He reminded them that Islam stood for peace and frowned on extremism and violence.
Sheikh Dr. Bonsu, who is also a member of the Ghana Hajj Board, made the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Kumasi.
He said the expectation was that they would come out of the holy month with pure hearts and a renewed commitment to live by the true teachings of Islam.
They should be disciplined, uphold basic human decency and refuse to be associated with anything that could create image problems for the Islamic religion.
He asked that they found space to contribute to efforts at helping to make the society a better place for everybody.
“We have to commit ourselves to wholeheartedly supporting the poor and the socially disadvantaged”, he added.
