Asamoah Gyan made this known when he inspected the Accra Academy High School Astro turf pitch project to ascertain the progress of work.
"I feel honoured by this gesture. Before, I thought I was just doing it for God, but people have also recognized it and I feel pleased," he said.
The Accra Academy Astro turf project cost Gyan $200,000 dollars and its yet to be completed. It started in March last year.
The proud old boy of Accra Academy said he felt proud anytime he passed by the school and that, he was providing the astro turf to his Alma Mata to give back to society.
"I am very happy for what I have done. Anytime I pass by, I feel proud of myself and feel I am blessed. This will urge me to do more. I hope the Almighty God gives me long life to help others."
The on-loan Al Ahli striker also used the opportunity to meet with the headmaster of the school.
Gyan began his football career by playing for Accra Academy school team, before joining Ghana Premier League side Liberty Professionals.
The 31 year old has had a wonderful career playing for European clubs like Udinese, Stade Renne, and Sunderland.
