Tema, June 5, GNA - Mr. Felix Mensah, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, says the Nana Addo-Danquah Akuffo Addo’s government will fulfill its free Senior High School (SHS) promise.
“Nana Addo-Danquah Akuffo Addo asked me to tell you that he has good plans for you and among these plans is the free SHS,” he said.
He said this on Monday during a visit to some selected centres for the on-going Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) within the Tema Metropolis.
He observed that the free SHS policy of the government was starting with pupils who were currently writing the basic examinations adding that “the confidence these students are showing tells everyone that they have positioned themselves to take advantage of the free SHS policy”.
He hinted that the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) would support the Metro Directorate of Education to ensure that President Akuffo Addo’s bid to make SHS education free in Ghana came to pass.
He observed the good and orderly manner in which the examinations were conducted, and praised the supervisors and the metro education authorities for their role in organizing the examinations.
Mrs. Margaret Frempong-Kore, the Tema Metro Director of Education, advised the candidates against examination malpractices.
“Don’t copy, don’t look for ‘apor’, Don’t look for anything. Just concentrate on what you have studied,” she advised.
She revealed that with the help of the Metro Health Directorate, nurses had been stationed at the various centres with first aid drugs and sanitary pads.
In all, 7,183 students were expected to write this year’s BCEE examinations in the Tema Metropolis.
The three thousand, five hundred and twenty boys and 3,663 girls are sitting in 25 centres under the watchful eyes of 250 invigilators and 24 assistant invigilators who are supervised by 25 superiors.
