Accra May 30, GNA – Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, the Minister of Works and Housing (MWH) has inaugurated a six-member Entity Tender Committee with a charge to members to exercise sound judgment in making public procurement decisions.
The Committee, chaired by the Minister, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, is by law responsible for making decisions on procurement in the Ministry, subject to the Public Procurement (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 914).
The Entity Tender Committee Members are: Mr Steve Aggor, Director in charge of General Administration, MWH, Reverend Stephen Yaw Osei, Director Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, MWH, Ing Carlien Bou-Chedid of the Ghana Institute of Engineers and Mr Sylvester Williams of the Attorney General’s Department.
Mr Akyea urged them to ensure that each stage of procurement activity and procedures prescribed in the Act had been followed, and were within the specified threshold limits.
He said: “In the performance of your duties you are expected to exercise sound judgment in making procurement decisions. I hope you will live up to expectation”.
In a related development, the Minister also inaugurated a 10-member Ministerial Advisory Body and five-member Audit Committee to address challenges in the Ministry.
The Ministerial Advisory Body include: the Sector Minister, Mr Eugene Boakye Antwi, Deputy Minister MWH, Madam Freda Prempeh, Deputy Minister of WH, Mr Steve Aggor, Director in charge of General Administration, Ministry of WH, and Mr Robert Le Hunte, Managing Director of HFC Bank.
The rest are Mr Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, Director-General, NADMO, Mr Kwakye Depoah-Dei, President of GREDA, Dr Wilfred Anim-Odame, Executive Secretary of Lands Commission, Mr Peter Hayibor, General Manager of SSNIT and Mr Isaac Bedu from Institution of Engineers.
Members of the Audit Committee include: Alhaji Yahaya Yakubu, Director of Housing at the Ministry of WH, Mr Francis Twum Boateng, Supply Officer at MWH Mrs Mercy Naa Aku Offei-Koranteng from Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, Mr Isaac Amertey from Institute of Internal Audit.
Mr Atta Akyea expressed the commitment of government to manage disasters which occur frequently as a result of natural causes.
He explained that there would be construction of major storm drains to reduce the risk of flooding, constant dredging and desilting of the country’s waterways and drains to ensure the free flow of flood waters.
Mr Le Hunte, on behalf of the Committee Members pledged to give honest, non-bias advise devoid of any personal interest.
