Ho, May 26, GNA - Professor Margaret Gyapong, the Director of the Centre for Health Policy and Implementation Research of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, and 12 others have been honoured with “Heroines of Global Health,” award.
General Electric (GE) Healthcare and Women in Global Health-a movement that strives for greater gender equality in global health leadership honoured them.
The 13 “emerging women leaders in global healthcare” were celebrated at the first ever ‘Heroine of Health’ honours organised as part of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland this month.
A news brief from UHAS said Prof Gyapong worked extensively to develop and improve Operations/ Health Systems and Implementation research capacity among research teams in Ghana, Africa and Asia for over two decades.
It said she had also worked closely with programme Implementers and policy makers in Ghana to ensure that her research led into policy and that underlying her work, was a focus on championing women’s health and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.
GE Healthcare and Women in Global Health is committed to change the face of global health for the future and to help recognize, develop and grow women’s leadership.
One of the strategies aimed at achieving the goals and the aspirations of the movement is “sharing the stories of women leading the charge, and the award scheme epitomises that, the brief said.”
