The training, ‘EXERCISE UNITED ACCORD’ is to “test African countries’ capabilities and capacities in conducting African Union/United Nations mandated peacekeeping operations, using the Mali East Region Template.”
A statement issued by M.A Larbi, Commander of the Public Affairs Directorate of GAF said: “The purpose of the training is to exercise interoperability and enhance regional peacekeeping operations amongst participating nations and troops.”
The exercise would be conducted from the 19 to 30 May, at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), the Bundase Training Camp and the Jungle Warfare School, Achiase.
Sixteen African partner nations and eight Western partner nations are expected to partake in the training.
The African partner nations include Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, UK and the US also form the complement of the Western partner nations.
The statement advised the public not to panic when they observe the movement of the troops including foreign military personnel, as the “security of all persons is assured”.
