Tarkwa (W/R), May 15, GNA - Two persons were injured on Sunday when a motor bike they were riding on run into a DAF petrol tanker on the Tarkwa - Takoradi highway.
One of the victims, whose name was only given as Jude, 22 year-old was severely injured and was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta hospital for treatment, while the other, Emmanuel Ato Asanfo, 20 is on admission at the Apinto government hospital.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency about the incident, the divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Department Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mrs. Victoria Yamoah said at about 17:50 hours, Asanfo was riding a Royal motorbike with registration number M15 AS 849 from Tarkwa main station towards Bogoso junction with Jude.
She said when they got to Alimex gas filling station in Tarkwa, he attempted to overtake a vehicle so he meandered his way on the road.
According to her, in the process, the victims, slipped off the motor bike and rode into the opposite lane where the tanker had then reached but was moving at a slow pace due to heavy traffic.
She said the victims hit the front bumper of the DAF and the two sustained various degrees of injuries.
ASP Mrs Yamoah said Emmanuel and Jude were taken to the Apinto government by some Good Samaritans, where they were given first aid and treatment but Jude was later referred to the Effia Nkwanta hospital.
