Gomoa Afransi (CR), May 13, GNA - Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, a Senior Lecturer at the Cape Coast Technical University, has been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Gomoa East Assembly.
All 39 assembly members voted to endorse President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the district.
Mr Otoo was sworn-in by Justice Peter Dei Ofei, the Agona Swedru High Court Judge.
Earlier, Mr Fred Arthur, Presiding Member of the Assembly, said the members were voting to confirm the President’s nominee for the interest of peace and development.
He said members would not vote on partisan lines to ensure that Gomoa East progressed in education, health, good roads, sanitation, jobs and wealth for people no matter which government was in power.
Mr Thomas Adjei Baffoe, the Deputy Central Regional Minister, commended the members of the assembly for voting overwhelmingly for the President’s nominee.
He asked the DCE to run an open-door and transparent administration to speed up development of the area.
Mrs Naana Eyiah Quansah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, called for cooperation and understanding among members of the assembly to enhance unity and development.
She expressed appreciation for the President’s nomination of Mr Otoo, Chairman of Gomoa Central New Patriotic Party, as the DCE and pledged to work hand in hand with him to bring jobs and wealth for the youth.
Mr Otoo, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to fight the high rate of teenage pregnancy among school girls in the area to enable them to pursue higher education.
He thanked the members of the assembly for their endorsement and promised to work hard to turn Gomoa East District into an investor-friendly destination to improve economic development.
Mr Otoo said he would ensure the successful implementation of government’s policies and programmes to reduce unemployment and poverty.
He called on the chiefs and people to support his administration to curb the haphazard building of structures to make Gomoa East a beautiful place to live.
