Bakakyire (W/R), May 3, GNA - The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has engaged its stakeholders to deliberate on the final draft of the spatial and local plans for the four Sub-Metros within the assembly.
The project, an initiative of the Ministry of Local Government and funded by Agence Franchise de Development (AFD), is to help define the national urban policy and provide a comprehensive approach to urban issues for the four participating cities made up of, STMA, Accra, Kumasi and Tamale.
Mr Henry Owusu, Metropolitan Development Planner of the STMA, said the assembly was the first to finish with a spatial and local plan for active engagement of stakeholders.
He said the plan was a projection of how the metropolis should look into the future, adding that the release of the final report by the consortium was timely to identify growth areas in line with government’s vision of advancing the socio-economic development of the country.
Mr Owusu said the STMA would now focus on implementing the critical growth poles and solicit for prospective investors to partner in releasing the interventions.
He said the STMA would soon organise an investor conference to highlight the plan and its contents as well as attract the needed private sector participation.
Mr Anthony K. K. Sam, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the plan would promote more effective urban governance in terms of strategic planning, local management operation and maintenance of local public investments.
The specific objectives of the project is to ensure access to essential services at the desired level and quality, build the financial, management and ownership capacities of cities as well as support local economic activities and employment.
Mr Sam urged all stakeholders to see the plan as their own and make the necessary inputs that would ensure that the plan was well synthesized to transform the development of the Metropolis.
