Accra, May 3, GNA - As part of activities marking Ghana’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the Ablekuma North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Wing organised a health walk on May Day.
The walk according to Ms. Victoria Parker, the Constituency Women Organiser, did not only serve as an exercise to keep the constituents healthy, but also meant to ginger up the members ahead of the 2020 national elections.
The five-kilometre walk, which started at about 0500 hours from the Darkuman Circle Station in Accra through Odorkor and ended at the Kwashieman cluster of schools park, attracted about 500 members of the party, mostly women from 20 “ cells”.
Speaking to the media after the walk, Ms.Parker said apart from health walks which would be undertaken by the women’s wing periodically in the course of the year, a number of activities had been drawn up including free medical screening, health talks and workshops.
The Constituency Chairman, Mr George Nkrumah said the exercise was a membership-drive adopted by the party to attract floating voters into the party.
Mr Nkrumah said even though the next general election was more than three years away, the constituency would not wait till the last minute before mobilising supporters for the party.
In the next couple of days he said, a comprehensive programme of activities for the rest of the year in the constituency would be unveiled.
He advised Ghanaians to remain resolute and confident in the NPP under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to deliver.
