Zini, (U/W), April 27, GNA – The Buwa Traditional Council in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region has appealed to government for a polyclinic to help address the health challenges of the people.
The people in the area are currently benefiting from the services of an infant clinic and often had to travel 48 kilometres away from Zini to Nandom, 28kms to Gwollu, 68kms to Tumu and 71kms to Jirapa hospitals on referrals.
Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II, Acting President of the Buwa Traditional Council who made the appeal, explained that despite the long distances the sick had to undertake, roads in the area were in deplorable conditions and the only clinic providing health services to the people had no ambulance service to cater for emergency cases.
Kuoro Baninye, who is also the Niator Kuoro was addressing the chiefs and people of Buwa Traditional Council at the 7th Annual Celebration of the “Buwaala Kelwie” Festival at Zini.
Kuoro Baninye pleaded with government to rehabilitate roads in the area, pointing out that the several broken down culverts had made travelling on the roads life-threatening to passengers, especially the sick.
He called on government to provide electricity to the more than 450 inhabitants of Sangbaka community, who are currently without electricity, and also had no feeder roads to link it to other communities in the district.
He said the Sangbaka community was always cut off during the rainy seasons due to flooding and broken down culverts, causing women to deliver in the bush on their way to the health centres.
“We are pleading with government to construct feeder roads to link Sangbaka to Nyentie, Gbal and Bullu communities to address the challenge”.
Mr Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister commended the chiefs and people of the Buwa Traditional Area for instituting the festival and using it to foster unity among sons and daughters and also spearheading the development of the area.
The Deputy Regional Minister assured the people that government would ensure that the Buwa Traditional Area and for that matter, the Sissala West District got its fair share of the national cake.
He said the achievement of government within the first 100 days was an indication of good things yet to come to “mother Ghana” and called for full support from the people to enable government deliver on its good promises to the people.
On the issue of the broken culverts, Mr. Chinnia assured the people that he would personally take up the matter with the Department of Feeder Roads, to see how best they could fix them for easy movement of goods and services.
He however appealed to the people to always use lighter trucks to load their goods to vantage points for heavy duty trucks to carry, noting that the too many broken culverts was as a result of heavy duty trucks plying the feeder roads which were not meant for them.
