Agona Swedru (C/R), April 24, GNA - A combine team of Agona Duakwa Police and residents of Agona Obreprow at the weekend arrested two people who allegedly attempted to snatch a taxi from a driver at knife point.
A lady among them managed to escape from arrest after they entered into bush when the taxi had a ditch after it was snatched.
Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Yankey, made this known to the Media at Agona Swedru.
He said on 22 April, at about 20:30 hours, Mr Simon Kwarteng, a taxi driver in charge of Hyundai Atos hired by the suspects Daniel Asante 46 Price Tetteh 32 and a lady from Koforidua Efiduase in the Eastern Region to Accra, to a funeral.
The Divisional Commander said while at the funeral, the suspects brought packed food to the driver.
According to the Divisional Commander, the suspects left Accra at about 17 hours, o reaching Nsawam, one of the suspect told him to send them to Akim Adeiso to take his son from his wife.
Chief Superintendent Yankey said the taxi driver obliged but did complain that time to make sales to his master has past and suspects promised to double the sales and fill the petrol tank for him.
He said unknown to the taxi driver they diverted his course from Adeiso to Awutu Bawjiase through Agona Swedru on the Akim Oda Agona Swedru main trunk road.
Chief Superintendent Yankey said on reaching Agona Duakwa the suspects asked the driver to take Agona Duakwa Agona Duotu road which was an unknown route to him.
He said on reaching middle of the road, the lady told the driver to stop for her to urinate and he protested but the Asante sitting in front of the car convinced the driver to do so.
He said as soon the lady got down another also alighted and left only Asante seated in the car with the driver.
All of a sudden Asante affectionately called ‘Obolo’ attempted to remove the ignition key but the driver resisted.
He said the Asante was able to pushed the driver out of the car at a knife point and asked other accomplices to seat in the car and sped off.
The Divisional Commander said the driver ran into Agona Obreprow village raised the alarm that armed robbers had snatched his car away.
The residents formed a search team and alerted Agona Duakwa Police led by Chief Inspect Kyei Baffour and his men to come and assist to arrest the suspects in the bush in the night.
The search team was able to apprehend the two suspects and two car number plates were found in a bag belonging to the suspects.
He said the cab has been given to the driver after interrogation, while investigation was on- going to ravel the mystery behind the crime.
