Eremon, (U/W), April 18, GNA - The people of Eremon Community in the Lawra District of the Upper West Region has finally enskinned Naa Vulkpur Nyuori Tang IV as Chief of the community.
The enskinment has now brought to an end the 17-year-long journey of living without a substantive chief after the death of the then Chief, Naa Bob Tang in 1999.
Until the successful election and enskinment of Naa Vulkpur Nyuori Tang IV, Eremon community had been governed by Regent after Regent with Mr Paul Naazuma Tang being the latest.
Naa Puowele Karbo III, Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area who performed the installation reminded the new Chief that the Chieftaincy institution was an honorable one that required occupants to exhibit high moral and ethical standards in leading their people.
The Paramount Chief charged him to seek the welfare of his people at all times and also endeavour to listen to the wise counsel from his elders and community members.
Naa Karbo noted that the Paramountcy had initiated process to mainstream women into the decision making body of the institution through the installation of Queen Mothers.
He therefore urged Naa Tang to initiate steps to install the Eremon Divisional Queen Mother (Pognaa) to assist him in the governance of the area.
Naa Karbo said the vision of the Paramountcy was to transform the socio-economic situation of its people through education and tasked the newly installed Chief to make the education of his people a key priority in his administration.
Mr Anthony Abaifaa Karbo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lawra Constituency thanked Naa Tang for making himself available to lead his people in the capacity as a Chief and pledged his fullest support for his administration.
The Deputy Roads and Highway Minister assured the people of government’s commitment to tackle the poor road network in the area, improve the poor telecommunication network and expand electricity to the 36 remaining communities in the area that were without electricity.
Mr Sulemana Alhassan, Upper West Regional Minister advised the new Chief to rule his people with humility and respect and endeavour to temper justice with mercy whenever necessary.
He said this would enable him earn the full support of his people, adding that it would inure to the benefit of the government as it planned working closely with traditional authorities to bring development to the people.
Naa Tang thanked the people for gracing the occasion and making it successful and urged his people to let the consensus that was reached during the election process translate into full support for his rein.
He promised to revive the dying but rich traditional dances and also focus on developing the Eremon crocodile pond to attract tourists to the area, while kicking hard against the menace of child marriage and open defecation under his jurisdiction
He pledged to rekindle the olden day’s communal spirit and use it to mobilise resources at the grassroots level to compliment government’s efforts at bringing development to the area.
