Kumasi, April 18, GNA – The Ayigya Circuit of the Methodist Church in Kumasi has organized health walk and fun games to promote the fitness of the members.
They engaged in sack-race, tug-of-war, orange race, soccer and volley ball competition.
The Very Reverend Godson Amankwah-Amponsah, the Superintendent Minister, said this was going to be made a regular activity of the church to keep the congregation in good physical and mental condition.
He noted that exercising the body combined with healthy eating habit – taking in lots of fruits and having enough rest, could prevent diseases.
He counseled against junk foods and other lifestyles that tended to fuel lifestyle diseases – diabetes and hypertension.
The Very Rev Amankwah-Amponsah added that the people should take responsibility for their own lives.
He said as a church it was eager to ensure holistic growth of the people.
Mr. Solomon Panford, a member of the organizing committee, applauded the government’s decision to set up a ‘National Fitness Day’.
This, he indicated, would heighten public awareness about the need to engage in healthy lifestyles.
