Accra, April 18, GNA - The Vice President of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) Mr. Emmanuel Owusu- Ansah has expressed satisfaction over the Senior National team’s heroic performance at the ICC Africa Division 2 tournament held recently in South Africa.
The senior national cricket team arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday to a rousing welcome following their heroic performance.
Mr. Owusu-Ansah in an interview said 'We are so excited. This is a new beginning for Ghana cricket. We all went into the tournament with the aim of winning the ultimate and we did it. Now we are going to play in World Division 5, which is a much higher division with a lot of big cricket playing nations.
According to Mr Owusu-Ansah the team is aiming to excel at the World Division 5 and as such, the team would be camped outside the country to prepare adequately for the tournament.
“Our aim is to improve further and we are sending the players to a residential camping outside Ghana, also to revamp our equipment situation and beef up the technical department. For now the target is to maintain our status in Division 5”.
The team, led by Coach Kofi Anafie, wrapped up their unbeaten record with a 9 wickets victory over Zambia in their last game, in a tournament which saw six other West African Countries participating.
Apart from winning the glittering trophy, Ghana spine bowler Vincent Ateak won the Most Run award with 173 in 5 matches. He was crowned the tournament's best bowler while Simon Ateak picked the best batsman with the Most Wickets award, as he took 12/79 in a total of 45.3 overs.
Frank Baleri also took the Most Dismissal award with 10 dismissals, 3 more than M. Mansaray of Sierra Leone to confirm their dominance in the tournament.
Ghana topped the table with 10 points, qualifying for the upcoming ICC World Division 5 tournament in September at a yet to be announced venue.
