Apollo (W/R), April 17, GNA - Mr Anthony K.K. Sam, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sekondi /Metropolitan Assembly, has said he is prepared to see to the transformation of the Metropolis into a modern oil city.
He said the overwhelming endorsement and the extent of goodwill showed him, was "an indication of the confidence people have in him to deliver on the promises of government to make the Metropolis a modern city with top class infrastructure and a serene environment."
Mr Sam said this during a press soiree organized by Assembly for journalists and media professionals in the Metropolis.
He said the expectations of the people for development projects was justified adding, "the people want the factories back, they want to see the infusion of cash into the economy of the metropolis, they want to see the slums and sea front developed and the relocation of GNPC to Sekondi Takoradi...I am here to deliver on these expectations ".
On the Assembly's activities, the MCE said he is quite acquainted with the concerns of the various departments adding that the waste collection and disposal was a major challenge of the Assembly.
Mr Sam said an estimated 361.2 tons of waste was generated daily and stressed that he would make waste collection a top priority.
The MCE said teachers in the metropolis have been provided with motorbikes to ensure effective supervision as poor academic performance in schools was attributed to lack of supervision.
He said lesser known sports would also be given attention to provide variety in sporting activities in the Metropolis.
Mr Sam urged media professionals to be active collaborators in the assembly's quest to ensure sustainable development.
