The day popularly known as the Palm Sunday, heralds the Holy Week leading to Easter.
Many churches within the Municipality had their premises decorated with palm branches and the parishioners also waved palm fronds and flowers as they sang hosanna and danced.
At the Saint Matthew Catholic Church in Tarkwa, the Palm Sunday was marked with a mass service, which was preceded by a procession and blessing of the palm fronds used.
In a sermon titled “Christian suffering”, Reverend Father Emmanuel Nii Noi Dodoo, Parish Priest of Saint Matthew Catholic Church, indicated that suffering was part and parcel of the Christ life and noted that “At times you go through pain, shame, distress and if you don't take care you will ask God why he has forsaken you”.
Reverend Father Dodoo asked Christians not to question God in trial moments, but have faith and trust in him for a breakthrough.
He said though the crucifixion was a shameful death reserved for serious criminals, Jesus went through it to save mankind from sin.
He also reminded Christians to assist their friends in times of need and not to betray them like how Judas and Peter did to the messiah.
The Parish Priest urged all Christians to attach importance to the procession rites with the palm fronds and not to see it as a source of entertainment.
