Tamale, April 3, GNA – The Endometriosis Foundation of Ghana (EFG) at the weekend joined the rest of the world to embark on an endometriosis awareness march dubbed: "EndoMarch."
The health walk, organized in Tamale, is being marked annually worldwide to create awareness on the Endometriosis disease.
Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found in other parts of the body especially in the pelvic area of women.
Dr (Mrs) Fathea Bani, a Medical Officer at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, who gave a public lecture after the health walk, said the condition affects one out of 10 women and also affected between 176 to 200 million women worldwide.
She said the Endometriosis is found in the lungs, brain and liver in rare cases.
Dr Solomon Gumanga, a Gynaecologist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and also one of the Foundation's Consultants, stressed on the need for patients to insist on seeing the Gynaecologist especially if they suspected the symptoms.
He urged people affected with endometriosis disease to visit health facilities to be diagnosed, when they have "killer cramps" especially during menstruation.
Ms Fareeda Serwaa Brobbey, the Founder of EFG, said early detection of the Endometriosis disease would ensure advance treatment of the patient.
She said the Foundation had been working hard to educate the public on the endometriosis so that it does not affect most women in the country.
The Endometriosis Foundation-Ghana is a non-profit organization, focused on creating awareness on the endometriosis in the general public especially young girls and women across the country and beyond.
